Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakoff’s Scheherazade is one of the most popular suites in the entire orchestral canon. The seductive melodies and sounds of the work influenced Stravinsky and have since been quoted by countless film composers. The musical narrative is reminiscent of One Thousand and One Nights and captures the imagination with its haunting beauty and enchanting exotic atmosphere. The whole world of Bedřich Smetana’s popular opera The Bartered Bride is captured in the overture, and the rousing dances are another celebration of the Czech national revival in the 19th century. The elite recordings by legendary producers Marc Aubort and Joanna Nickrenz for Vox are considered by audiophiles to be among the best-sounding examples of orchestral recordings. |
