Sviatoslav Richter (Piano)

On February 7, 1989, a concert by pianist Svyatoslav Richter was announced, but not in a Milan concert hall, but in the Teatro alle Vigne, a former church, in the town of Lodi, about 40 kilometers away in the Po Valley. Richter preferred to perform in unusual places in the fall of his career. Fog forced numerous visitors from the metropolis to arrive by regional train. The circumstances alone were memorable, but the concert of 20th century works was even more so. Richter’s choice of program and manner of performance demanded total concentration from the listener. One visitor spoke of a headache, not an unpleasant one, however.
