For their first album together, they chose an electrifying mixture of little-known arias and duets, all of which revolve around love, its passing and the resulting pain. Claudio Monteverdi plays “Pur ti miro”; the heartbreakingly beautiful final duet from “L’incoronazione di Poppea”, the lamentation of the abandoned lover “Interrotte speranze” and the lustfully sounding “Vorrei Baciarti”. In addition to Georg Friedrich Händel with “Tanti Strali”, two of his lesser known contemporaries also have their say: the Venetian Benedetto Marcello with “Se morto mi brami” and the Neapolitan Francesco Durante with the melodramatic “Son io barbara donna”. The Swiss lutenist Luca Pianca leads the lively ensemble Claudiana. |
