Recorded in 1961, this album is the last of the dynamic duo Donald Byrd / Pepper Adams and the first of the future great Herbie Hancock. Already at the height of his art, we find a classic hard bop; bluesy, fast, hard and breathless!

Donald Byrd had been with Blue Note since 1958 and in 1961, with his excellent album “Royal Flush”, he fully exploited his excellent hard bop. The trumpeter was supported by a state-of-the-art rhythm section with Herbie Hancock on piano, Butch Warren on bass and Billy Higgins on drums as well as Byrd’s frequent collaborator Pepper Adams on baritone.
