Alfred Schnittke left behind a diverse and in many ways multiply fractured oeuvre, and his rather small body of chamber music is no exception. The Polish AdAstra Piano Trio has taken on five of his works: In addition to the Cello Sonata No. 1 and the Piano Trio, the three rather rarely recorded miniatures “Musica Nostaligica”, “Stille Nacht” and the titular “Stille Musik” can be heard. Three of the works were written before his first, momentous stroke, two afterwards, during his Hamburg years.
