Music: Diego, Monreal, Campuzano, Gades, Freire, Zafra Bodas de sangre (Blood Wedding) is based on the tragedy of the same name by Federico García Lorca and describes the dichotomy between emotion and reason in a society marked by constraints and moral rigidity. The work, choreographed by Antonio Gades in 1974, tells the story of a bride who flees on her wedding night with her now married ex-lover. The cuckolded groom follows them; a fight to the death ensues between the two men. The Suite flamenco consists of seven traditional flamenco pieces, which were performed by the Compañía Antonio Gades for the 75th birthday of the great Spanish choreographer at the Teatro Madrid Gades, who brought these dances solos, duets or group dances with his unique insight into the aesthetics of flamenco on stage, was initially considered an avant-gardist. Today, his choreographies are true classics. |
