Over the past 20 years, Sir Antonio Pappano has been celebrated as a captivating and inspiring artist in his dual role as Music Director of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome. His concerts with singers, instrumentalists and choirs have been impressing audiences and the media for decades. Pappano inspires with his fine artistic flair, fascinating virtuosity and an impressive range of expression and drama. It is precisely these qualities that also characterize Sir Antonio’s highly acclaimed recordings for Warner Classics, which he began when EMI Classics signed him in 1995, and which came to fruition in particular during his 18 years at the helm of the Orchestra e Coro dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia from 2005 to 2023. The recordings collected in this box set include an important new premiere release of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 as well as a newly released recording of Rimsky-Korsakoff’s Scheherazade and two versions of Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bald Mountain (Mussorgsky’s original version and Rimsky-Korsakoff’s arrangement).

Since its foundation in 1908, the renowned orchestra was the first Italian orchestra to play only orchestral and symphonic music and has been conducted by conductors such as Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Herbert von Karajan and Claudio Abbado. Under the direction of Sir Antonio Pappano, the orchestra reached world-class level.
