La Petite Bande
Sigiswald Kuijken (Conductor)
In the 1980s, the American conductor and musicologist Joshua Rifkin proclaimed the thesis that Bach’s sacred cantatas had been performed with a solo instrumentation of the choral parts.
Sigiswald Kuijken soon became one of the most prominent representatives of this teaching, which he successfully applied in practice, even in a recording project lasting several years with one cantata each for the Sundays and holidays of the church year, which turned out to be a real stroke of luck for Bach’s interpretation.
The box with all individual episodes offers a representative cross-section of the cantata work and is an impressive monument to the conducting art of the Belgian early music doyen.
