Camille Saint-Saens: Symphony No. 3 – “Organ Symphony” – Marcel Dupré, Detroit Symphony Orchestra & Paul Paray

This LP is part of the second Mercury Living Presence series, which includes a total of five vinyl releases. Mercury Living Presence is considered a milestone within classic recording history. Mercury Living Presence LPs have been popular collector’s items from the beginning, and 70 years after the first releases, the label continues to be admired for the quality of its recordings and their “vivid presence.” The Mercury Living Presence technique is exquisitely suited to the lush, complex musical textures of Saint-Saëns’ Organ Symphony. This version, featuring Marcel Dupré on organ and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Paul Paray, was recorded at Detroit’s Ford Auditorium on October 12, 1957. Microphones were a Schoeps M201 in the center and Neumann KM-56 on the left and right sides.
