Decca’s history is closely linked to the history of sound recording and the artistic perfectionism of its sound engineers. The constant search for the ultimate Decca sound produced an outstanding recording quality that is still unforgotten today. What started with “The Decca Sound” as well as “The Decca Sound: The Analogue Years” and was able to celebrate impressive successes is now finished with the last part of the trilogy. “The Decca Sound: The Mono Years” is released as a strictly limited and numbered 6 LP box. The musical focus is on legendary mono recordings of instrumental and orchestral music from the years 1944-1956. The so-called mono era is characterized by Decca’s “Full Frequency Range Recording” technique, which represents the first step towards the hi-fi technology that is taken for granted today. Among the works are world-famous classics such as Beethoven’s “6th Symphony”, recorded under the baton of Erich Kleiber, and other legendary recordings including Nelsova, Martinon and Ansermet’s recording of Stravinsky’s “Petrushka”, the first Decca LP released in 1950. “The Decca Sound: The Mono Years” – now available pressed on 180g vinyl, with original covers on each sleeve. This limited-edition LP set features six outstanding recordings from Decca’s earliest high fidelity history, celebrating the technological breakthroughs that brought full-frequency range recording (ffrr) and high fidelity to the world 70 years ago. The recordings in this set, including Decca’s first LP (Ansermet’s 1949 recording of Petrouchka), have been selected from a collection of celebrated recordings in the 53-CD set of THE DECCA SOUND – MONO YEARS. Newly presented in luxury 180gm vinyl pressings, the set includes a newly written booklet detailing the history behind the Decca Sound from this period.
