Nicola Benedetti’s debut album on Decca is her first recording of baroque violin repertoire. The recording, “Italia,” made in Edinburgh, plays with Benedetti’s Scottish-Italian Background: the violinist plays virtuoso masterpieces by Italian composers and is accompanied accompanied by the leading chamber orchestra of her home country Scotland. Highlight on the album is the summer from Vivaldi’s “4 seasons”, as well as the devil trill sonata by Giuseppe Tartini. The versatile repertoire of the recording spans from the sparkling virtuosity of Vivaldi’s Concerto Virtuosity of Vivaldi’s Concerto Grosso Mogul, to the poignant tragedy of Veracini’s Largo to the lyrical beauty of two arrangements of Vivaldi’s vocal works. The Scottish Chamber Orchestra is conducted from the harpsichord by baroque specialist Christian Curnyn. |
