The search for true love
Until 1736, Joseph Bodin de Boismortier was better known for his entertaining instrumental music, but as soon as he created his first stage work Les Voyages de l’Amour (1736), he came up with a score full of energy and ingenuity, which showed that he also had a command of opera. György Vashegyi and his Orfeo Orchestra have delighted us here with an excellently cast recording (with Chantal Santon Jeffery and Katherine Watson, among others) of the long neglected work about the God of Love’s journeys through village, town and court in search of true love. A special feature of the production is the recording of two different versions of the second act.
