Anima Rara, the debut album of Albanian soprano Ermonela Jaho, focuses on the repertoire of Rosina Storchio, one of the most prominent lyrical sopranos of the Verismo era. The focus of the album is on famous, but also less well known arias from Leoncavallo’s La bohème, Giordano’s Siberia, Mascagni’s Lodoletta Verdi’s La traviata or Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, the title role of which Storchio wrote to the composer’s heart. Ermonela Jaho is known for her performances of burning intensity and penetrating emotional depth, and is described as “the world’s most celebrated soprano” (The Economist) and “one of the great verismo singers” (The Guardian). Jaho is accompanied by the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana under the baton of the young Italian conductor Andrea Battistoni.
