“Introducing Kenny Cox and The Contemporary Jazz Quintet” was recorded in 1968 and was the debut album by this underrated Detroit band led by pianist Kenny Cox, which also included trumpeter Charles Moore, tenor saxophonist Leon Henderson, bassist Ron Brooks and drummer Danny Spencer.

The band’s post-bop was undoubtedly influenced by the Miles Davis Quintet, but displayed its own unique sensibility on memorable originals like “Mystique,” “Trance Dance,” and David Durrah’s beautiful track “You.”

This Blue Note Classic Vinyl Edition was mastered by Kevin Gray from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g vinyl at Optimal.
