“There is a galaxy of piano trios in the jazz universe today,” BBC Music Magazine has noted, “but few shine as brightly as Marcin Wasilewski’s.” On their seventh ECM album, the versatile Polish group illuminates a characteristically wide spectrum of music. “En Attendant” features collectively crafted pieces alongside Wasilewski’s malleable “Glimmer of Hope,” Carla Bley’s timeless “Vashkar,” the hypnotizing The Doors classic “Riders On The Storm” and a foray into Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations. Fluid interplay is the hallmark of this trio, whose more than a quarter-century of playing together has led to an almost telepathically deep understanding between Wasilewski, bassist Kurkiewicz and drummer Miskiewicz.

“En attendant” was recorded in August 2019 at La Buissonne Studios in the South of France and produced by Manfred Eicher.

Marcin Wasilewski Trio:

Marcin Wasilewski: piano, Slawomir Kurkiewicz: double bass & Michal Miskiewicz: drums

“‘In Motion (Part 1)’ opens En Attendant, their sixth album for the label, and it’s typical of the effervescently open-ended lyricism, ear-massaging sonority and organic, intuitive dialogue at the heart of the trio’s collective aesthetic…It’s the sound of an ensemble still perfecting the art of trio in 2021.” – **** Jazzwise

“Little happens in a hurry in this thoughtful, often luminously expressed album by the Polish trio, but the close empathy Wasilewski, Kurkiewicz and Miskiewicz have developed over more than a quarter century is exemplified by the group-improvised three-part interspersed sequence, In Motion.” **** – The Scotsman

“Polish pianist Marcin Wasilewski and his fine long-running trio mix three mercurial ensemble improvisations with audacious mutations of classics by Carla Bley, JS Bach, Iron Butterfly and The Doors for En Attendant.” – The Guardian

“The music is never less than pretty and his insinuating Riders on the Storm is irresistible.” – The Times
