Description
Detailed Presentation
This is the fifth of at least seven volumes of early EMI stereophonic recordings released in collaboration with the Archive of Recorded Sound (ARS). EMI began stereo recordings in 1954, and all of the recordings in this series are from this historic period of music recording. All releases appear in some form for the first time and include many of the greatest classical artists of the era This program of neglected early stereo recordings presents three outstanding virtuosos who were close contemporaries and brought the warmth and suppleness of Mediterranean culture to their performances, combining these qualities with the rigor of their musical training. The first three concertos are performed by Italian soloists and conductors, the fourth by a husband and wife duo, ensuring a rare degree of congruence. Press Quotes: “This excellently documented series, with its raft of stereo recordings appearing digitally on CD for the first time, has been flying under the radar for too long… Excellent notes accompany the release. All the performances are valuable and not simply for historic reasons.” (MusicWeb International) |
