In this new album Fabio Biondi shares with us a discovery: six never-before-recorded string quartets by the Milanese composer Carlo Monza (1735-1801), whose delicate style, flirtatious tone and light mood are characteristic of the late eighteenth century and unmistakably inspired by opera. This program is undoubtedly a revelation: not only for the listeners, who discover here a composer largely unknown to us today, but also for Fabio Biondi, who found these works about ten years ago in the catalog of a private library. Initially disappointed by the thought of not being able to consult or play the scores, he later came across a copy by chance in the Bibliothèque Nationale de France. So a long search led him to these six little jewels, among the first composed for four string instruments. |
