Johann Sebastian Bach:Cello Suites Nos. 1-6, BWV1007-1012

Artists

Mstislav Rostropovich (Cello)

When the great Russian cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich died in 2007, he had not only gained the greatest reputation as a musician. Persecuted in the Soviet Union, he stood up for democracy and human rights. His performance for a united Berlin at the open Wall at Check-point Charlie is unforgotten. In 1995 Rostropovich, undisputedly one of the best cellists in the world, surprised everyone with a very special recording. For the first time in his career, he recorded the most famous repertoire for his instrument: the six suites for solo cello by Johann Sebastian Bach – now released as a deluxe 4-LP vinyl set – (180g).

This recording has been released for the first time on LP in 2016, in a deluxe limited edition, and all quantities manufactured were sold very fast. The 2021 reissue is almost the same (red colour instead of blue on the box packaging), with the same packaging and sound, without numbering nor download code this time.
