Karl Ulrich Schnabel (Piano)Leonard Shure (Piano)

Born 1910 in Los Aneles to Russian-Jewish parents, Leonard Shure spent his childhood in Los Angeles. Shure made his orchestral debut at the age of 6. At 14, Shure journeyed to Berlin for studies with Artur Schnabel, and at 17 he was appointed Schnabel’s first and only teaching assistant. The subsequent rise of Hitler precipitated Shure’s return to the U.S. where his auspicious debut with Serge Koussevitsky and the Boston Symphony, launched his professional career. Over the next 55 years, Shure toured extensively throughout North America. This three CD set gives the perfect insight into his career and also has the added extra of containing his earliest known recording from 1931.
