Detailed Presentation
On its ECM New Series debut album, the Boston-based Parker Quartet, praised by the Washington Post for its “mastery and imaginative interpretive artistry,” performs works by György Kurtág as well as Antonín Dvořák – the latter together with the quartet’s former mentor, violist Kim Kashkashian. In this powerful program of contrasts, Dvořák’s String Quintet No. 3, composed in America in 1893, is framed by two concentrated, meticulously shaped works by Kurtág – the Six Moments musicaux (2005) and the Officium breve in memoriam Andreae Szervánszky (1988 / 89). The special feeling for Kurtág’s singular musical language is not least the result of an intensive collaboration with the Hungarian composer. The album was recorded in the studio of Radio DRS in Zurich. |
