This legendary complete recording of G. F. Handel’s “Messiah” on 2 CDs from 1997 is now supplemented by an audiophile remastered Blu-ray Audio Disc. The Blu-ray Audio features a stereo and a surround version in 24-bit / 96kHz as well as a Dolby Atmos mix in 24-bit / 48kHz. The rich-sounding, dramatic yet light-footed McCreesh recording of the Messiah comes through particularly well in these remasterings. The vocal soloists are also outstanding, with Susan Gritton, Dorothea Röschmann, Bernarda Fink, Charles Daniels and Neal Davies. The British original sound ensemble Gabrieli Consort & Players, conducted by Paul McCreesh, perform the “Foundling Hospital Version 1754” of Messiah with great vitality and ease. The 32-page booklet includes the complete libretto, the full instrumental cast list, and an accompanying text in English and German written by the conductor. |
