Antonio Pappano interprets Richard Strauss On the programme of this recording are two contrasting works by Richard Strauss: the comparatively rarely performed, humorously shrill Burleske for piano and orchestra with Bertrand Chamayou as soloist, and the epic autobiographical tone poem Ein Heldenleben. About the work, one of the composer’s orchestral masterpieces, Antonio Pappano, who conducts the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia here, says: “Strauss always thought dramaturgically. When you record this music in Italy, the connection has to come through opera, with all its theatricality, temperament, contrasts and colors … You need a certain radiance in the sound, which the musicians achieve here.” |
