With his new album Cherubini Discoveries Riccardo Chailly continues his “Discoveries” success series. Recorded with the Filarmonica della Scala, whose last release THE FELLINI ALBUM was highly praised by the specialist press (a fascinating album – Classic FM), the conductor devotes himself to the Italian composer Luigi Cherubini. Besides well-known works, such as the Marche funèbre, he also presents 9 world premiere recordings. Luigi Cherubini, who moved to Paris in July 1786 and directed the Paris Conservatoire for some time, composed not only operas, masses, motets and two requiems, but also numerous works for official and private occasions. These are marches of which Chailly rediscovered 9 for this album. Among them are works such as the Marche religieuse pour le jour du sacre de Charles X or the Marche pour le pompe funèbre du Général Hoche. The album closes with the well-known Marche funèbre, which was probably first performed at the funeral of the Duc de Berry on 14 March 1820. |
